02 · Why a Curated Routine

Modern skincare often feels like a puzzle of ten or more steps. We believe in a different approach: the right steps, in the right order, with formulas refined enough that consistency comes naturally.

Four principles guide every Porcelaine Skincare Routine:

Clarity. One decision per step.

Quality. Only formulas that earn their place through performance and tolerability.

Compatibility. Layering that works without guesswork.

Consistency. Textures you'll return to, daily.

03 · How It Works

Start at Step 1 and move through each layer. Choose one formula per step, swapping as your skin evolves. Below each step, our editorial notes guide your selection and application. When the routine is complete, add the full sequence to cart in seconds.

Introducing new actives. For first-time use of vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, or retinoids, begin with two to three evenings per week. Increase frequency gradually as your skin builds tolerance.

04 · The Five Core Steps

Step 1 · Cleanse

Remove impurities, sunscreen, and makeup without disturbing the skin barrier.

Look for. Low-pH gel cleansers for balanced or oily skin. Cream or balm textures for dry or sensitive skin.

Editorial note. If skin feels tight after cleansing, switch to a gentler formula or reduce water temperature.

Best practice. Lukewarm water. Thirty to sixty seconds of gentle massage. Press dry with a soft towel, never rub.

Step 2 · Prep (Toner)

Rebalance pH, add light hydration, and prepare the skin for treatments.

Look for. Humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Soothing agents like panthenol and allantoin. Fragrance-free formulas for reactive skin.

Editorial note. Avoid alcohol-heavy toners if your skin flushes easily. Layer two or three passes for extra hydration.

Best practice. Apply with cotton pads or clean palms. Gentle press, never rub.

Step 3 · Treat (Serum or Ampoule)

Target your main concern: dullness, uneven tone, fine lines, or breakouts.

Look for.

  • Vitamin C (AM) for brightness and antioxidant protection.
  • Niacinamide (AM or PM) for tone, oil balance, and barrier support.
  • AHAs or BHAs (PM) to refine texture. Begin slowly.
  • Retinoids (PM) for fine lines and clarity. Buffer with moisturizer for sensitive skin.

Editorial note. Introduce one active at a time. If irritation appears, reduce frequency rather than pushing through with extra moisturizer.

Best practice. Pea-sized amounts. Layer thinnest to thickest texture.

Step 4 · Moisturize

Seal in hydration and reinforce the skin barrier.

Look for.

  • Gel creams for a weightless finish.
  • Creams or balms with ceramides and fatty acids for long-lasting comfort.

Editorial note. Press, never rub. Oily skin still benefits from a lightweight moisturizer. Skipping this step often increases shine by midday, as the barrier rebounds dry.

Best practice. Apply to damp skin. Layer over strong actives using the sandwich technique.

Step 5 · Protect (SPF, AM)

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen completes the routine.

Look for. SPF 30 or higher in a texture you'll reapply consistently. Texture matters more than the number itself.

Editorial note. Reapply every two to three hours during direct exposure. Over makeup, use a cushion or stick for clean top-ups.

Best practice. Apply the equivalent of two fingers along the face. Extend to ears, neck, and the back of hands.

05 · Optional Boosters

Two to three times weekly, layer in these targeted treatments alongside your core routine.

Exfoliating treatment (PM). Refines texture and revives radiance. If new to acids, avoid the night before an important occasion.

Hydration mask. A reset after long days or flights.

Eye treatment. For targeted depuffing or fine lines. Tap gently. Never drag.

06 · How We Curate

Every product in our Porcelaine Skincare Routine is evaluated against four standards:

Ingredient integrity. Effective concentrations of actives, clean INCI logic, and proper preservation.

Texture and wear. If a formula pills, leaves a heavy film, or carries an unwanted scent, it is excluded.

Real-world testing. Performance across skin types, climates, and daily routines.

Value. The formula that performs best for its price, never simply the newest.

07 · Layering Guide

  1. Cleanse
  2. Prep (Toner)
  3. Treat. AM: Antioxidants (vitamin C, niacinamide). PM: Acids on alternate nights, retinoids on alternate nights.
  4. Moisturize
  5. SPF (AM only)

A note of caution. Avoid layering strong acids and retinoids in the same routine until your skin has shown clear tolerance for each individually.

08 · Routines by Skin Type

Balanced or Normal Skin.
Gel Cleanser → Hydrating Toner → Vitamin C (AM) / Retinoid (PM) → Lightweight Cream → SPF

Dry or Dehydrated Skin.
Cream Cleanser → Essence Toner → Hydrating Serum → Ceramide Cream → SPF

Oily or Congested Skin.
Gel Cleanser → Balancing Toner → Niacinamide or BHA → Oil-Free Gel Cream → SPF

Reactive or Sensitive Skin.
Milk Cleanser → Soothing Toner → Barrier Serum → Cushioning Cream → Mineral SPF

09 · If Something Feels Off

Pilling. Slow down and let each layer settle for sixty seconds. Use less product. Avoid stacking silicone-heavy formulas.

Shine by noon. Often a sign of under-cleansing or skipping moisturizer. The barrier rebounds dry, prompting oil overproduction.

Stinging. Patch test new actives. Buffer with moisturizer. Reduce frequency to every third night until comfortable.

Persistent blackheads. Layer in a gentle BHA two to three nights weekly. Keep moisturizers non-comedogenic.

10 · What to Expect

Weeks 1 to 2. Smoother texture, deeper hydration, better makeup wear.

Weeks 3 to 4. More consistent tone. Fewer midday shifts between dryness and shine.

Weeks 6 to 8. Visible improvement in clarity and fine lines with consistent active use.

Skincare is not a single product or a single moment. It is consistency, tolerability, and time, refined into a routine your skin will return to.

Frequently Asked

How many products do I really need?
Begin with three essentials: Cleanser, Moisturizer, and SPF. Add a single targeted treatment when you have a specific concern.

Morning versus evening, what changes?
SPF is daytime only. Strong actives such as acids and retinoids belong to the evening routine. Hydration is welcome in either.

Can I layer vitamin C with niacinamide?
Yes. The two layer well for most skin types. Apply vitamin C first when concentrations are comparable.

Sensitive skin, where should I begin?
Choose fragrance-free formulas. Avoid daily acids during the first weeks. Patch test new products behind the ear for twenty-four hours.

When will I see results?
Hydration and glow appear within days. Texture and tone shift over weeks. Fine lines and firmness, over months of consistent use.
